Help:Syndication/Widgets
Widgets are one of the ways you can use Povo content and tools on your site. For a complete list see
Help:Syndication.
Widgets are web components that you can embed in your blog or web site to make them more attractive to your viewers. Povo currently provides you with two types of map view widgets:
Any page or search on Povo can be embedded on your site as a map view using a widget. Creating a map or heat map widget is a simple process:
- Go to any page or run any search that contains the items you would like to appear in the map.
- Click on the LINK / SHARE at the top of the page, next to the Povo logo.
- In the LINK / SHARE page, you will see an Embed section. In that section, you will see the that option to create either a map widget or a heat map widget. Click on one of those choices to start creating your widget. The widget creation page will contain further instructions on how to create and embed your widget in your blog or web site.
We are also working on more widgets:
- Embed the "tag filter" or the list of tags around a location. This is kind of like embedding a search, but lets the visitor to your site decide what to show next.
- Get a list of your contributions either in map or list form. You can show how active you are on Povo and let people see just how knowledgeable you are about your area.
- A search slideshow - so instead of a map (or in concert with), you might want a running slideshow of search results which displays a picture, basic listing information, and some text of your choosing. We think this will be a good way to see your contributions, for example.
- Simple results list - Maybe you just want the top 5 water parks in the city as a list on the right side of your blog... You can do this with the API, but we'll soon provide a widget that makes it easier.
- In-page popups - Similar to the concept behind Snap Previews, you can get Povo listing information for any link in your site. When you talk about Aroa Fine Chocolate on your site, we'll make it show the phone number, rating, URL, tags and more in a hovering window over the link.
If you want us to work faster on a particular widget, please
let us know as nothing makes us happier than somebody wanting to be the first to use Povo in a new way.
Thank you for your contribution. You've taken a huge step to making Povo the "word on the street,"
and we appreciate it very much. Because of the complexity of the "wiki text" and code that can be used
on Povo, in order to edit this section in the future you must click the "edit" button to the right of the section
heading (or for the whole page).
